Flaming Tortoise Pattern
The "Flaming Tortoise" is the Japanese minogame, a venerable creature which lived in water and had weed growing on its shell, giving it a flame like appearance. It is allegorical of steadfastness and longevity.

Of octagonal shape decorated with the "Flaming Tortoise" pattern, the eponymous tortoise, two cranes, prunus, pine, chrysanthemum and other flowers around the rim with a blue long tailed bird perched on a chrysanthemum in the centre, within a gilt spearhead border.
The motif in the centre is very similar to that found on a Chelsea pattern - see Victoria and Albert Museum, c.374-1918,  R.Clarke Edwards Gift, illustrated in "Porcelain for Palaces", pl. 194, p.199.

Of octagonal form decorated with the "Flaming Tortoise" pattern, the eponymous tortoise, two cranes, bamboo and pine around the rim with a circular dragon in the centre, within a meandering leaf border.
